Summit Viper SD Climbing Treestand 521x326

by Cory Yarmuth, Legend-Outdoors.com

I was not a fan of climber stands due to their limitations and the tree requirements, however when I saw the Summit Viper SD I just had to try it. Weighing in at 20 pounds it makes it one of the lightest climbers around. The stand utilizes the “Summit lock” construction, which allows the two sections to nest together for an easy backpack transport.

The all welded aluminum construction is also made with the “dead metal” principal. This makes the stand one of the quietest stands I have come across. No noise means a quieter climb and a better chance at the big one.

Climbing with the stand was easy and the adjustments on the climbing cables were simple and quiet. I was able to get much higher in the tree than with a standard hang-on or ladder stand.

Because of the adjustable seat, cushioned armrests and padded climbing seat bar, this was the most comfortable stand that I have had the pleasure to use. The seat made it easy to sit and stand with little movement and noise. The adjustability of the seat made getting a comfortable position that much easier.

Because of the versatility of the Viper SD and it’s superior features I was able to harvest a nice 8-point buck, opening day on public land. The deer weighed in over 200 pounds after field dressing. I also had the pleasure to have 8 or more deer around me at any time without being detected. The Summit line of stands are well made and I would have no problem recommending them to anyone who may be looking for a nice stand to add to their hunting gear.
