ARIZONA

Mule Deer Poached Near Kingman

Arizona Game and Fish Department is looking for info about a recent mule deer poaching incident near Kingman. The agency said a doe, apparently shot by archery equipment, was found in a wash area near the Rancho Santa Fe subdivision, located in Game Management Unit 16A. Officials think the animal was killed between Sept. 2 and Sept. 4, according to a news release.

"Evidence was collected at the scene, but help from the public will play a critical role in finding those responsible," wildlife manager Cody Johnston said in a news release. "This is not the act of a hunter. Poaching is a crime. It is stealing wildlife from the citizens of Arizona. It is important for anyone with information to come forward and help Game and Fish bring those responsible to justice."

If you info on the alleged poaching, call the department's Operation Game Thief hotline at (800) 352-0700, or visit www.azgfd.gov/thief, and refer to case #17-003542.

New Law Allows Pistol Cartridges in Rifles to Hunt Deer

Iowa hunters will have a new option this fall while hunting deer during the youth season, disabled hunter season and both shotgun seasons – rifles that are capable of shooting straight walled cartridges. The new straight wall cartridge law was passed without dissent by the Iowa Legislature, and then signed by then Governor Terry Branstad on April 13. It was enacted to allow for a lower recoil option for older and younger hunters, but is available to all hunters in those four seasons.
